Tribal Tattoos

11/18/2014

"Different tribes were known by their Native American tattoos. There were different markings to identify different tribes and the regions they were from. Native American tattoos also held mystical or spiritual meanings to those who wore them. Many early people believed that the tattoo would endow them with supernatural powers or strength. Many people took the tattoo of an animal whose strength they wanted to emulate." - (indians.org)

Lip Plates

"It is often claimed that the size of the lip plate is correlated with the size of a woman's bridewealth. This is not born out by the fact that the marriages of many girls have already been arranged, and the amount of bridewealth to be paid by their husbands' families has already been decided before their lips are cut." - (mursi.org)
